Parish Background
The beginning of our Orthodox Mission in Springfield dates back to 1978. The parish went through periods of activity followed by long lapses until 1989 when regular monthly services began with supply priests from St Louis and Kansas City. The frequency of these services increased to twice a month by 1994 as the congregation grew. The parish moved into a permanent home on December 22, 1999 and the first service celebrated was the Nativity Divine Liturgy. Fund-raising activities are now under way to help pay down the building loan and for interior beautification. Fr. Andrew Moore was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Grace, Bishop Job during a Divine Liturgy on Sunday, January 28, 2001. Fr. Andrew has been assigned to our parish as our permanent priest. It is not just a sheer chance that this small community has survived here in Springfield since 1978. The Almighty must have a plan for Orthodoxy in Springfield. As the Apostle Paul states in Romans 8:33, "If God be for us, who can be against us? With Him on our side, everything is possible." We are a pan-Orthodox group with members from virtually every Orthodox background as well as a number of converts. Please join us if you are visiting our area. And if you are relocating to Southwest Missouri, we extend an invitation to join our family.
